Primary Sector Working with natural resources. The main activities are farming, forestry, fishing, mining and quarrying Secondary Sector Processing things such as food or minerals (for example iron ore), making things by manufacturing (for example, microchips), assembling (for example, cars) or building (for example houses). Tertiary Sector Providing services. These include services that are commercial (for example, retailing and banking), professional (for solicitors and accountants), social (for example schools and doctors), entertainment (for example, restaurants and cinemas) and personal (for example, hairdressers and fitness trainers). Public and private transport is also included in this sector. Quaternary Sector Concerned with information and communications (ICT) and research and development (R&D). Universities are an important part of this sector.
