LO: To learn about characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Create a separate spider diagram for each of the following words: Midsummer; Night; Dream. What do each of these words mean to you? Add your suggestions around each word.

4 In A Midsummer Night’s Dream,
Shakespeare uses different writing styles to suit different characters. For example, Bottom and his friends generally speak in prose, which gives them a simple, rustic quality. For the speeches of Oberon and Titania, Shakespeare uses a much more complex form of poetry, implying the exquisite beauty and magic of the fairy kingdom.

5 Hermia Daughter of Egeus. She is beautiful, petite and brunette. She is in love with Lysander and is willing to disobey her father and run away with him.

6 Lysander A young wealthy man of Athens. He is a romantic – and very much in love with Hermia. They run off together!

7 Helena She is Helena’s good friend. She lacks confidence about her looks and doesn’t think she can compare to Hermia. She is also quite beautiful fair and tall. She is in love with Demetrius!

8 Demetrius A young wealthy man – also in love with Hermia. He is engaged to her. He has been disloyal to Helena. He is angry with Lysander for trying to steal her!

9 Bottom He is one of The Mechanicals. He is part of the company producing a play for Duke Theseus’ wedding. He is an over-confident fool! Puck plays a trick on him and gives him the head of an ass! Titania then falls in love with him for a short while!

10 Oberon He is the King of the Fairies – married to Titania. He is a powerful fairy, who is used to being obeyed.

11 She is the beautiful Queen of the Fairies (married to Oberon).
Titania She is the beautiful Queen of the Fairies (married to Oberon). She is strong and independent. Oberon and Puck trick her into loving Bottom with the love potion.

12 Puck- robin goodfellow
Oberon’s servant, a jester; a mischievous fairy who likes to play tricks on people. Not completely wicked, Scornful of humans especially those in love, fast 40 mins round the earth
