Like single-word verbs, phrasal verbs can be both intransitive and transitive:

4. slide 4: Reed-Kellogg diagrams wjth transitive phrasal verbs
As in Reed-Kellogg diagrams of sentences containing intransitive phrasal verbs, in diagrams of sentences with transitive phrasal verbs the particle is placed on the main line next the verb, and as with diagrams of sentences containing transitive verbs the phrasal verb is separated from the headword of the direct object by a vertical line perpendicular to the main line. For example, here is the diagram of the sentence I found out the answer containing the transitive phrasal verb find out:
