Lessons from Isaiah The Lion Lamb
Atonement is not achieved through a mere religious sleight of hand; it is a matter of death. – D. A. Carson March 18, 2018

Isaiah 53:1 Isaiah 53:3 Isaiah 53:5 Isaiah 53:4
John 12:38 Romans 10:16 Isaiah 53:1 Mark 9:12 Isaiah 53:3 Acts 10:43 Isaiah 53:5 Matthew 8:17 1 Peter 2:24 Isaiah 53:4

Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

Romans 10:15-16 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned— every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned— every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

John 1:29, 35-36 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”

The Lion Lamb Revelation 5

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.

Mark 14:60-61(a) And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against You?” But He remained silent and made no answer.

Mark 15:4-5 And Pilate again asked Him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against You.” But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.

Luke 23:8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see Him, because he had heard about Him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by Him. So he questioned Him at some length, but He made no answer.

Isaiah 53:8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people?

Isaiah 53:9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

Matthew 27:57-60 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.

Isaiah 53:9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

John 8:46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Isaiah 53:11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Hebrews 7:25 Consequently, He (Jesus) is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

For Our Consideration Is Jesus your Shepherd?
Have your sins been placed upon the Lamb of God? Have you jumped to conclusions about the story of your life and its ending? What does being righteous mean to you in your daily life? What does it mean to you that Jesus forever lives to make intercession?

Prayer Focus Thank You Father for the glorious Good News of Jesus Christ Thank You for Your never-ending love and flow of grace for us Thank You for Your Word to guide our daily lives and to lead us into all truth.
