2. Genuine Faith Grows in Trials
James 1:2-5
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

James 1:2-4

We will face many kinds of trials in life.
“trial = a test of faith, patience, stamina through subjection to suffering or temptation; a source of vexation or annoyance”
We can face trials in life with a joyful attitude.
We can have a joyful attitude because we know God can use trials to build up our faith.

7. Genuine Faith Grows in Trials
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
If we do not see how our trials can build up our faith, we can ask God to show us.
God, what do you want me to learn from this trial? What is still lacking in my faith? How can this trial build up my faith?
God delights to show us what we do not see.

What God taught me through Janet’s surgery…
God loves us and He treasures our time alone with Him.
James 4:8
Come near to God and he will come near to you.

God loves us and He will not allow unnecessary pain to come our way.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

What God taught me through Janet’s surgery…
God loves us and He works behind the scenes for our benefit.
Romans 8:28
…in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

We can face trials in life with joy because we know these trials will build up our faith.
If we can’t see how our trials can build up our faith, we can ask God to show us and He will.
