Categories of Species
2
Native Evolved within the ecosystem.
Is part of the SYSTEM… Plays a role in how the system functions.
3
Invasive (non-native, alien)
Did NOT evolve within the ecosystem Brought intentionally or accidentally Globalization has caused the spread to increase exponentially! Kudzu…

Indicator “Indicates” that something is disrupting the ecosystem.
Birds, fish, amphibians… (example: hermaphrodite frogs… something’s wrong with the water!)

7
Generalists Thrives in a wide variety of conditions and uses a wide variety of resources.
8
Specialists Can only live in a narrow range of conditions.
9
Endangered In danger of going extinct.
10
Threatened In danger of becoming endangered.
11
Extinct Locally: extinct from an area
Ecologically: the population is so low that the species no longer fulfills its role in the ecosystem. Wolves in Yellowstone Biologically: GONE FOREVER!!
