6th Grade – ELA Standard or Honors 7th Grade – ELA Standard or Honors 8th Grade – ELA Standard of Honors APEX students are served in Honors Level ELA courses NEW FOR 18-19 English I Honors for 8th graders meeting specific criteria

15 English I Honors for 8th Graders
What is English I? One of 4 required HS English courses, typically taken in 9th grade Wh0 can take English I Honors as an 8th grader? Any CS 8th grade student who scores a 19 or greater on both the ACT English subtest and the ACT Reading subtest Why take English I Honors in 8th grade? Allows these students to take additional advanced courses in high school

16 English I Honors in 8th Grade Eligibility Criteria
Students must score a 19 or greater on the ACT English subtest AND a 19 or greater on the ACT Reading subtest No parent override will be available All CS 7th graders will be given these two subtests on March 7th, during the school day Students may also submit their official ACT results for eligibility

17 TRADITIONAL HS ENGLISH PATHS
9th Grade – English I Standard or Honors 10th Grade – English II Standard or Honors 11th Grade – English III Standard or AP English Language and Composition 12th Grade – English IV CLEP Aligned, Dual Enrollment English IV or AP English Literature and Composition Please refer to the CHS Program of Studies for additional information

18 STEM SCHOLAR COHORT STEM Scholar Cohort will take 8th grade STEM together STEM Scholar students will be enrolled in Geometry Honors in 8th grade ELA option: ELA 8 Honors or English I Honors (students must meet eligibility criteria)

19 FUTURE OF STEM SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The STEM SCHOLARS program was designed to provide access for students to the multiple math pathways, to have a daily STEM course and to pilot the 1:1 device utilization. Current 6th and 7th STEM Scholar cohorts will complete their pathways. Every CS Middle School student is now a STEM Scholar, how? 1. Multiple math pathways (Standard, Honors, Advanced Honors) 2. Daily STEM class for every CS 6th, 7th and 8th grader 3. Digital Learning fully implemented with iPad, Schoology, etc… 4. New additional advanced academic opportunities

20 Every CS 8th grader will take:
1. Math (Math 8, Algebra I H or Geometry H) 2. Science (Science 8 or Physical Science H) 3. US History 8 CLEP Aligned with CLEP History of the United States I 4. ELA 8 Standard, ELA 8 Honors or English I Honors 5. *STEM 8 – Science of Technology/Flight and Space 6. **MAPS – Band, Choir, Orchestra, General Music or Art and PE *RTI period: ESL, Learning Lab or Intervention **WCMS hopes to offer new MAPS options, will be on registration forms
