Project 2: Crane Model Design brief: To design and make a bamboo crane model for learning purpose Group : 4 members Duration: 3 cycles
2
Project 2: Crane Model Material provided: bamboo sticks (200 mm long), a wooden base
3
Project 2: Crane Model Requirement :
1) The bamboo crane model should not be shorter than 250mm long. Bench >250mm
4
Project 2: Crane Model Requirement :
2) The model should be gripped firmly on the bench and weights are placed one by one at the end of the crane model until it breaks down so as to test the loading ratio. Bench
5
Project 2: Crane Model Requirement :
Maximum Loading Weight of the Crane Model Loading Ratio = 3) The model must be built with the bamboo sticks provided by the teacher and be fastened with hot melt glue.
6
Project 2: Crane Model Testing methods:
Measure the weight of the crane model with the wooden base by the electronic balance.
7
Project 2: Crane Model Testing Methods:
2) Grip the crane model on the bench by a bench hold fast. 3) Hang the hook at the end of the crane model and place weights one by one on the hook base until the model breaks down.
8
Project 2: Crane Model Testing Methods: Count the weights used.
5) Calculate the loading ratio. Higher loading ratio is recorded, higher mark will be given.
9
Project 2: Crane Model Bench This is only a sample. Don’t copy!
10
Project 2: Crane Model Information:
Search for information about frame and structure on internet.
11
Project 2: Ccrane Model Design consideration: Solution
Weight of the crane model Information Stability Solution Special features of bamboo stick Structure
12
Project 2: Crane Model Suggested Procedures Design Considerations
Initial Ideas Final Idea Solution Make a crane model Testing Evaluation
13
Project 2: Crane Model Safety:
Must take care in using the hot melt gun in order to avoid to be burnt. b) Never touch the melted glue directly.
14
Project 2: Crane Model Assessment: Loading Ratio Marks
Cannot hold any weight Can hold the hook only 1 <10 2 10 but <15 3 15 but <20 4 20 but <25 5 25 but <30 6 30 but <35 7 35 but <40 8 40 but <45 9 45 10
