He was president for 4 years.
He continued to push for changes in the Soviet Union.

In 1989, East Germany was on the verge of collapse.
On November 9th, 1989 private citizens began to demolish the wall without opposition from East German authorities.
In 1990, East and West Germany reunited for the first time since 1949.

In 1990, Saddam Hussein (leader of Iraq) invaded neighboring Kuwait.
The United Nations condemned the invasion.
People worried that Iraq may invade other countries around the world.

The attack was a success and Iraq left Kuwait.
However, Saddam Hussein still remained in power as the president of Iraq.

This created a debate about the role of women in the military.
In 1991, Congress voted to allow women to serve as combat pilots.

Bill Clinton became president in 1992.
He is a democrat.
He served for 8 years as president.

North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Opened trade between Canada, U.S. and Mexico.
This meant removing trade barriers like tariffs.
People worried that this would cost American workers their jobs.

President Clinton’s conduct became public after a relationship with a White House intern was exposed.
He was impeached, but found innocent.
