Number of State Representatives based on it’s population Elected every 2 years (no limit on # of terms served) Choose their own “Speaker” (leader) and other officers and can Impeach. ($194,000) There are 435 Representatives total Qualifications/Requirements: 25 years old U.S. citizen for at least 7 years Must live in the state they are elected to represent

1/3 chosen every second year The Vice President is the head of the Senate There are 100 Senators total Salary: $174,000 Qualifications/Requirements 30 years old U.S. citizen for at least 9 years Must live in the state they are elected to represent

11 Enumerated Powers A long list of powers that have been given to Congress Found in Section 8 of Article I Examples: Borrow money on the credit of the United States To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures To provide and maintain a Navy and Army To establish Post Offices and Post Roads

13 Limited Powers Places limits on the powers given to Congress Ex:
No money can be drawn from the treasury They can not create any titles for royalty, like a King.

14 Proper/Necessary Powers
Also known as “Implied Powers” or the “Elastic Clause” Gives Congress the power to pass all laws that are necessary for that given time. Ex: Military Draft during a time of war How it looks in the Constitution: “To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.”
