1 Classic or Fad? The Importance of Fashion Cycles
A WebQuest for High School Fashion Marketing Designed By: Christine Baranowski EDCI 5314

2 Introduction Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion
Teacher Page Fashion Cycles are important. Classics and Fads are what make fashion. Being able to decide whether something is a classic or a fad can help you understand fashion better. The purpose of this webquest is to familiarize students with Fashion Cycles and defining classics and fads. Using fashion magazines and their own peers, students will show what different classics and fads are. They will also be able to identify the stages of the fashion cycle that clothing goes through and will create a bell curve poster of fashion cycle.

3 Task Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion
Teacher Page The students will learn the stages of the fashion cycle (introduction, rise, peak, decline, and obsolescence). They will understand the definitions of fad and classic and be able to decide whether an article of clothing is a classic or a fad. The students will use magazines to find examples of clothing in different stages of the fashion cycle and use them to create a bell curve poster with examples of each stage of the fashion cycle

4 Process Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion
Teacher Page Students will write down one item of clothing that they bought and only wore for a certain period of time. The class will share these ideas after everyone has written one down. Then there will be a PowerPoint presentation on the fashion cycle, its stages, definitions of classics and fads. After the lesson students will get into groups and have to find pictures from old and new magazines as well as online sites such as MSN, People, and Google to find items of clothing in each stage of the fashion cycle along with one classic piece and one fad piece. Each group will share with the class their findings on the poster they have created showing the fashion curve and explaining why they chose these items. After there will be a group discussion about the whole lesson and the teacher will answer any questions the students had about the lesson.

5 Evaluation Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation
Conclusion Teacher Page The students will be evaluated in two ways. The teacher will review how accurate their poster is to what they have learned. The other students in the class will rate the other groups as to which groups they thought did the assignment correctly and which one did not.

6 Conclusion Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion
Teacher Page After this lesson, the students will understand why it is important for marketers and designers to make sure they are on top of what stage of the fashion cycle certain fashions are in. They will also understand the negative effect that can happen if they are not aware of these concepts and what it can do to a company or designer.
