Math Star Students Literacy Birthdays
10/23-10/27 Literacy This week in Jolly Phonics we will learn the last letter sounds: er & ar. Please continue to practice them at home daily. Our book of the week is “The Pumpkin” and our sight word is “and”. We will continue to practice proper letter formation in our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. In Reading Workshop, we will continue in our Fiction Unit of Study. Students will practice retelling a familiar story. We have several puppets to help us with this! We will also be looking at the similar pattern in many fiction stories where the main character has a problem and works to find a solution. In Writing Workshop, students will use premade books in their writing folders to practice being authors and illustrators. They absolutely love doing this and it’s so exciting to see them using their imaginations to create simple letter and number books. They are so creative! They will use a piece of yarn to measure the length of objects and determine which objects are “longer” and “shorter” than the yarn. Students will also be comparing weight using a pan balance. They will have time to experiment with objects and see how we can use a pan balance to determine which object is “heavier” and which is “lighter”.
