2 2. Excellence Inclusion opportunities Collaboration
Open ended Block play My name is Hooda samad and I am the early years lead at Montgomery primary academy, just to tell you a little bit about Montgomery we are a three form entry inner city school. Our school is located in a deprived area with 98% EAL children. Based on the needs of our children we have to ensure we are providing a language rich curriculum in early years that not only helps children to develop their speaking and listening skills but also focus on increasing their vocabulary. Looking at the needs of our children offering traditional role play areas does not work as their interests are changing on a day to day bases, we have invested in open ended resources that allow children to use language and transform the blocks into anything they want, as our topics and stories change children use those ideas to recreate them through role play.

4 Excellence, Inclusion, opportunities,Collaboration
Open and reflective culture Action research CPD sessions “Action without understanding is blind just as theory without action is meaningless”. At Montgomery we believe in having an open and reflective culture where if something is not working we as practitioners have to think about what we can do to change it. Through action research practitioners have helped shape the curriculum based to suit the needs of our children. For example we teach phonics following letters and sounds sequence we then use jolly phonics as the songs and actions help children to remember the sounds but we use read write inc to help children with their letter formation. As a school we have curriculum working parties, where teachers from each year group work together to help shape the curriculum and help lead training sessions to support staff development.

5 Excellence Inclusion opportunities Collaboration
All the areas of the early years curriculum are equally important and offering a well balanced curriculum is essential for children’s holistic development. We at Montgomery understand the need to offer a balanced curriculum where children are leading their own learning with adults are teaching children the essential literacy and numeracy skills. When children start the educational journey at Montgomery they come with very limited experiences so it is our job to offer rich opportunities and experiences. These rich learning experiences not only enhance children’s development but also helps them to develop independence which is essential as they transition out of early years.

"Every child deserves an excellent education.....Excellence does not happen by chance. It is found in schools which have leaders of vision, courage and conviction, and the ability to create and inspire teams whose members work consistently for each other, as well as for the students and communities they serve."
