Mariposa’s school-wide PBIS program
What is PBIS? Positive Behavior Intervention System Focuses on positive rewards for good behavior Creates a plan for “teaching” appropriate student behaviors Creates a plan to address undesirable student behaviors through teacher and administrative interventions Lesson plans build on Mariposa LifeSkills Consistency throughout the school All staff expectations are the same, using the same language and the same series of rewards and consequences

Using the Power of Computers to Solve Problems Students will learn fundamental computer science concepts and digital citizenship/internet safety practices, while developing their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Quarter 1 Quarter 2 Quarters 3 & 4 Introduction to Computer Science Concepts Code.org Computer Science Grade Level Fundamentals Course Integrated Computer Science Learning Lessons Scratch Jr mini-lessons addressing science and social studies standards Integrated Computer Science Learning Projects CS concepts and skills will be taught through technology based integrated projects that address both science and social studies standards Integrated lessons and projects will be implemented during the Extended Learning block and weekly Computer Lab time Combination of unplugged (hands-on lessons without a computer) and plugged lessons on the computer

Ways You Can Support Your Child’s Learning
Read with them at least 60 minutes every week Write, write, write… even if it’s only a few sentences. Ten facts Sort & count money Practice addition & subtraction facts (flash cards or zearn.org) Telling time using an analog clock (not digital ) Go over the homework with your child and have them make corrections if mistakes were made. Technology- Code.org, Zearn, weblinks Practice using good manners & modeling Lifeskills
