4 Management Mini-economy: Behavior Management:
Every student gets a job and earns class money. The teacher can control certain privileges or classroom routines by putting a price on them. Highly customizable by the class. Behavior Management: PBIS ROAR Jar and Matrix (Whole Class/School) Dragon bites jar and individual recognition Think Sheets are a way to help children improve themselves.

5 Be Healthy! Snacks: Sleep: Snack time is after specials.
Snacks replace energy used by so much learning! Think about nutrients when packing snacks. Cookies and candy are not allowed in the classroom. Save junk food for lunch. Sleep: 9 – 11 hours recommended Problem with behavior? Moods? Academics?

6 Homework Homework is a regular routine Monday - Thursday.
Students will write their homework down in their agendas daily. Homework is a regular routine Monday - Thursday. Read Independently 20 minutes Word Study sorting words and an additional activity Math for about 10 minutes with an online program (IXL, DreamBox, Reflex) Students should read on weekends, too!

8 BYOT Classroom Bring Your Own Technology
Used only for educational purposes, not “technology days” or incentives. Will not begin until all students understand BYOT routines and policies. BYOT information will be sent home as our start date approaches ANY device is welcome as long as it can connect to the Arcola Wi-Fi! It is NOT required and is 100% up to the parent.

Third Grade Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Math Preview Grading Policy

10 Reading A balanced or comprehensive literacy approach is used.
This includes shared reading, guided reading and independent reading as well as read-alouds, literature study and explicit skills lessons. The skills include the following: 1)Connecting 2)Predicting 3)Questioning 4)Inferring 5)Synthesizing/Visualization 6)Evaluating/Applying * Grades come from performance in reading groups and reading responses.

11 * Students are evaluated on their use of the writing process.
Writing/Grammar Paragraph writing, personal narratives, expert writing, research writing, fractured fairytales and persuasive letters. Word Study is not Spelling, but improves Spelling Students will be tested bi-weekly. Monday: New Words and Next Friday: Test 10 minutes a day in class (Activities vary) Students work at their own spelling level! Cursive Writing Oral Presentations - 1 per quarter We practice talking every day in Morning Meetings

14 Assessment Assessments will be graded with 4, 3, 2, 1.
4 – Excelling: self directed, demonstrates skills and concepts at a highly proficient level, and performance shows insightful understanding, consistently 3 – Achieving: developing proficiency with skills taught, applies skills and concepts appropriately, and performance shows overall understanding 2 – Developing: recalls and uses skills with some consistency and performance shows a limited understanding  1 – Needs Improvement: needs significant teacher support, responses are limited or incomplete, and performance shows lack of understanding

To receive a “4” you must add an extra word under each header that fits with your word sort. Please explain WHY each word fits.
