Inventory Fragmentation
Travel Inventory Formerly considerably more consolidated Current inventory and associated data is fragmented Changing Models Old single vendor model Two to three vendors are now required
4
New Distribution Capability
Definition New Distribution Capability (or NDC) will enable the travel industry to transform the way travel products are retailed Existing Marketplace Fees on Global Distribution System (GDS) bookings Additional carriers to charge GDS fees, offer incentives for NDC bookings or both Impetus for NDC Airlines & Hotels believe NDC will result in: Greater differentiation in products and services Increased competition and Enhanced customer experience
5
New Data Tools Support Duty of Care
Definition Employer’s duty to provide safe transportation and mitigate potential risks to life, limb and health for employees Impact of Artificial Intelligence Tools are in place to quickly and efficiently locate travelers anywhere around the world Allows a travel manager to use Web-based chat on their smartphone to request a view of travelers' locations Can also ask for information on travelers by destination or flight number
6
Hotel Bookings Moving to Artificial Intelligence
Daily Impact of Artificial Intelligence Last year nine-times as many requests were made for cooking-related advice than in 2016 Amazon’s Alexa has already helped mix tens of thousands of drinks Impact on Hotel Bookings Travelers will no longer need to set up searches Instead, traveler will enter the city, date and number of rooms Will receive three hotel options – all matching the travel policy plus an individual preference within the policy
7
Possible Mergers in Car Rental Industry
Two major car rental brands are exploring the possibility of a merger – which, like previous hotel and airline mergers, would significantly impact government and corporate travel
8
Possible Solution for Fragmentation
Itinerary Aggregation Tools Capture bookings outside approved booking methods Air, hotel, ground, rail, etc. Impact Provides more transparency to spend Insight on where travelers are and usage outside legacy program May force government to create new travel policies that better reflect today’s marketplace Unfortunately, each data point only offers insight into one vendor Solution Provides insight to all sources consolidated in one easy to understand reports and one reservation invoice ready to be reconciled
