Answering Key Questions: What? What is an academic meeting? How does it differ from other kinds of meetings? What is a conference? Is a conference a special kind of academic meeting?

Why have a meeting? What are its goals?
Answering Key Questions: Why? Why have a meeting? What are its goals? Can you accomplish the same goals some other way? What is so important about face-to-face meetings?

Who is/are the sponsor(s) of the meeting? Why are they sponsoring it?
Answering Key Questions: Who? Who is/are the sponsor(s) of the meeting? Why are they sponsoring it? Concern about the topic? Location of sponsoring organization(s)? Reputation (that is, ‘fame and glory’)? Economic issues? Other? Who is paying for it? Sponsors, organization, attendees, combination?

Who is the target audience?
Answering Key Questions: Who? Who is the target audience? What do you want them to learn? Why would they want to come?

What is the temporal nature of the meeting?
Answering Key Questions: When? What is the temporal nature of the meeting? Annual or some other interval? One time? When will the meeting be held? What factors influence the timing of the meeting?

Where is the meeting to be held?
Answering Key Questions: Where? Where is the meeting to be held? What does this location have to offer in terms of facilities, resources, accommodations, and transportation? What is special or unique about the location? How can this be best utilized by the meeting? WAC Inter-Congress, New Zealand, Waipapa Marae
