BRAIN

CNS
10
It controls body temp. , urge for eating and drinking
It controls body temp., urge for eating and drinking. It also contains neurosecretory cells which secrete hormones called hypothalamic hormone. A major coordinating centre for sensory and motor signaling
11
Limbic System Along with hypothalamus it regulates sexual behaviour, expression of emotional reactions & motivation.

MIDBRAIN
14
2 - Cerebral peduncles - ascending & descending fiber tracts
Midbrain - 1 - Corpora quadrigemina - visual reflexes & relay center for auditory information. Two pairs of rounded knobs on the upper surface of the midbrain mark the location of four nuclei, the upper two are called superior colliculi and the lower two are called inferior colliculi. These are called collectively the "corpora quadrigemina." These masses contain the centers for certain visual reflexes, such as those responsible for moving the eyes to view something as the head is turned. They also contain the hearing reflex centers that operate when it is necessary to move the head so that sounds can be heard better. 2 - Cerebral peduncles - ascending & descending fiber tracts It relays impulse back and forth
15
HIND BRAIN
16
Cerebellum - functions in coordination, maintenance of posture, & balance
PONS - contains pneumotaxic center (a respiratory center) MEDULLA – Regulate heart beat, blood pressure, swallowing, breathing, salivation, sneezing, vomiting, coughing & involuntary movement.
17
Reflex Action - skin (Effector)
18
Nerve cells - Receptor cells - receive information from the environment. Sensory neurons - messages travel from the receptor cells through the sensory neurons to the spinal cord and brain. Interneurons - connect sensory neurons to the motor neurons. Motor neurons - messages travel from the brain and spinal cord through motor neurons to the muscles and glands Effector cells - cells stimulated by the motor neurons.
