Little did Zee Lekgwara know what would come when she volunteered to work in a government school that emphasizes education for children with special needs. It led to my invitation to present devotionals to 12th grade students AND it led Zee and others to form a Pathfinder Club for youth who are not Seventh-day Adventists!
4
Imagine presenting devotionals to 12th grade students who are deaf, blind, crippled, and some with albinism.
5
When You Are Given an Opportunity, Grab it with Both Hands! These students warmly welcomed the opportunity to hear stories of faith. They had fun teaching me sign language – when given an opportunity to teach, they are also open to learning.
6
Three very talented students with albinism singing about home and Christian values.
7
Albinism is shrouded in a dangerous life-threatening superstition which conceals the reality that all are created in the image of God regardless of their physical or mental challenges.
8
We can learn so much from those whom we call ”disabled.” It causes me to ask if I really understand or am even aware of my own disabilities.
9
“Calvin always looks on the bright side
of life!” Calvin, a 19 year-old 12th grader, was born partially blind. An operation went horribly wrong and he went blind. He struggled but then he told himself, “Being blind doesn’t mean I am incapable.” At nineteen he is an author of three books which has helped pay for his school expenses! He wants to become a life coach and motivational speaker.
10
It was hard to say “Good-bye.”
11
Zee’s dream has come true-–a well-disciplined Pathfinder Club in a government school!
12
Who would have thought . . . When You Are Given an Opportunity, Grab It with Both Hands!
