Are you on track to Graduate???
As your counselors, we will be double and triple checking your graduation status. We will send out letters, that you should receive no later than September 15th with your grad check information. Are you on track to Graduate??? It is important to check in with your counselor on your graduation status and also to understand which courses are required.

What steps should you be taking to prepare for college???
ACT Scores College Applications College Visits Scholarships and Financial Aid Don’t forget about your high school courses and grades!!!

ACT Dates ACT Scores Date Deadline October 22nd September 16th
December 10th November 4th February 11th January 13th April 8th March 3rd June 10th May 5th If you are not satisfied with your ACT scores, you can always retake it. ACT scores are tied to college admissions, courses you can take, and scholarship opportunities You can register to take the ACT at If you need help with this process let me know.

College Applications / College Visits
Apply to Colleges!!! It is a good idea to apply to more than one. Plans change as students progress through their senior year. Pay attention to deadlines. Many colleges will have priority deadlines that may be attached to scholarship opportunities or fee waivers. Do as many college visits as possible. It is a good idea to visit the colleges you are interested in or applying for so you can make an informed decision on where you will attend

Financial Aid There are 4 main types of financial aid for college
-Scholarships -Grants -Loans (Federal or Private) -Work Study

Scholarship Information
o o o o Go on-line to GRHS website under Counseling for an updated list of scholarships. o Check with the financial aid department at your college to see what scholarships are available through their institution. o Request letters of recommendation for scholarships with a minimum 2 week advance notice. o Work on essays for scholarships. Make sure to have someone else edit them.

Federal Student Loans FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) If attending school in the Fall of 2017 apply after January 1st. If graduating at semester and going straight into college apply as soon as possible. You will need a PIN number to electronically sign your FAFSA. You can get this at March 1st is the priority deadline for the FAFSA. Complete taxes early if possible so you can complete your FAFSA in February.
