Convergent means: moving together
“con” means together (Think connect or contact) There are two types

(1) Subduction the denser plate subducts beneath the less dense plate
two scenarios: (A) OCEAN-OCEAN & (B) OCEAN-CONTINENT

Resulting Landforms: (1) trench (2) volcanic island arc (chain)

(B) OCEAN-CONTINENT SUBDUCTION
Resulting Landforms: (1) trench (2) volcanic mountains

Andes Mountains, South America Pacific Northwest, USA

(2) Collision: continent- continent
No subduction, therefore no volcanoes Resulting Landforms (1) folded mountains & (2) high plateaus
