1 Lab Sheet Criteria

2 Has a title “Keeping Flowers Fresh”
Lets the reader know what the experiment is about. Avoid, “Cutesy” titles. No more than 8 words long

3 Problem: What are you trying to solve?
How can cut flowers stay fresher for a longer period of time?

4 Claim Maple Syrup will help cut flowers stay fresher for a longer period of time. Don’t use, “I think” or “Probably” Be blunt and to the point.

5 Materials List “grocery style” List amount first Use metric units
2 cut flowers 2 labels 2 plastic cups 5 ml maple syrup 500 ml water 1 stir stick

6 Procedure Number each step. Remember, ANYONE should be able to follow your procedure exactly. First word is an “adverb” an “action” word Examples: cut, pour, label, add, place, observe….. Procedure: 1) Count the exact number of petals on each flower. 2.) Recut the ends of the stems so that they are freshly cut 3.) Pour 250 ml of water into each cup 4.) Pour 5 ml maple syrup into the cup labeled: “water’ with maple syrup …..and so on……

7 Results This includes the data table and graphing of the data.
Be sure it is titled and all columns are labeled. Always find the averages. The “x” and “Y” axis is labeled.

8 Analysis Put in words what you see on the data table and graph.
One way to do this is to imagine that you are describing the data to a blind person. They can’t see the trend on the graph. Use complete sentences.

9 Conclusion The first words will always be: The data (does or does not) support the hypothesis that flowers with maple syrup in the water will stay fresher longer than the flower without maple syrup. Include how you would improve or change your experiment. Were there any difficulties you had to overcome? Can the results be used to, “better mankind?” Any specifics?
