2 Fishbone Strategy How it works:
The main direction of the essay is the “spine” of the fish These “bones” coming off the spine are the main points that the writer has to make The benefits: This helps pupils to structure their writing and create a mental “checklist” of what they have written It is a more simplified version of a mindmap and allows pupils to have a clear and simple plan of how the essay or piece of work will be structured

3 Song and Rhyme How it works:
Pupils invent songs or poems to remember key information They can put this to the tune of anything from nursery rhymes to their favourite pop songs The benefits: This is a versatile tool and can work for a variety of subjects Song and rhyme is a great way of recalling information If you need proof just ask you child how many song lyrics they can remember from their favourite band or artist off the top of their heads!

4 Mini White-board How it works:
Purchase a mini whiteboard and pen for pupils to make notes at home The benefits: This is a versatile resource and can work for a variety of subjects It allows pupils to correct their own mistakes It is good for memorising and writing out long passages It saves on paper!
