2 PREVENTION IN TCM: ENERGY CONSERVATION
Prevention is the technical-professional action or activity that aims to reduce mortality, morbidity or effects due to certain risk factors or to a certain disease prophylaxis promoting individual health and well-being and collective salutogenesis There are three levels of prevention, which refer to different acts and stages We are coming to understand health not as the absence of disease, but rather as the process by which individuals maintain their sense of coherence and ability to function in the face of changes in themselves and their relationships with their Environment. SENSE OF COHERENCE - SOC A. ANTONOVSKY (1979)

3 PREVENTION IN TCM: ENERGY CONSERVATION
Primary Prevention It is the classic and main form of prevention, focused on the adoption of interventions and behaviors able to avoid or reduce upstream the onset and development of a disease or an unfavorable event Frequently, primary prevention is based on behavioral or psychosocial actions: health education, psychological interventions and psychoeducational changes in behavior, attitudes or representations

4 PREVENTION IN TCM: ENERGY CONSERVATION
Secondary Prevention This is a technical definition that refers to the early diagnosis of a disease, allowing it to intervene early on it, but not avoiding or reducing its appearance The pivotal tool is screening, which allows for early intervention and increases therapeutic opportunities, improving progression and reducing negative effects

5 PREVENTION IN TCM: ENERGY CONSERVATION
Tertiary Prevention it is a technical term related not so much to the prevention of the disease itself, but to its more complex outcomes Prevention in this case is that of complications, the chances of recurrence and death (even if, in this case, all therapeutic treatments would be in a certain sense, paradoxically, "prevention") With tertiary prevention we also mean the management of consequential functional deficits and disabilities in a pathological or dysfunctional state

6 PREVENTION IN TCM: ENERGY CONSERVATION
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not simply the absence of illness or infirmity HEALTH Equilibrium The wise doctors do not treat already ill people, but they instruct the healthy ones on what to do in order not to get sick. Administering medicines to treat diseases already established is comparable to the behavior of those who start digging a well and feel thirsty or to those who forge weapons when the war has already been declared. Is not it a little late? Lingshu

HOMEOSTASIS / HOMEODYNAMICS ὅμοιος στάσις SIMILAR POSITION Homeostasis is a central organizing principle of physiology and refers to the maintenance of a relatively stable internal environment. It is an automatic control mechanism achieved through the effects of different organ systems working together to return the organism to its equilibrium state.

THERMODYNAMIC SYSTEMS IN BIOLOGY Life as a manifestation of the second law of thermodynamics [E.D. Schneider – J.J. Kay, 1994] The entropy of an isolated system far from the thermal equilibrium tends to increase over time, until the equilibrium is reached

ISOLATED SYSTEM Energy does not cross the boundary of the system Total energy of the system is constant CLOSED SYSTEM Energy can cross the system boundary Mass cannot cross the system bundary NON ISOLATED SYSTEM Energy can cross the system boundary in a variety of ways Total energy of the system changes
