1 Homecrest Presbyterian Church Worship of the Lord’s Day September 11th, th Sunday in Ordinary Time

2 Gathering Around the WORD Call To Worship
Rejoice with me, people of God. God has gathered us in from the wilderness. God has swept away the darkness of the night. Today, there is joy in the presence of the angels.

3 Gathering Hymn # 620 “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”
Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet your tribute bring; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, evermore his praises sing: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the everlasting King.

4 Gathering Hymn # 620 “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”
Praise him for his grace and favor to his people in distress; praise him still the same as ever, slow to chide, and swift to bless: Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorious in his faithfulness.

5 Gathering Hymn # 620 “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”
Fatherlike, he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Alleluia! Alleluia! Widely yet his mercy flows.

6 Gathering Hymn # 620 “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven”
Angels, help us to adore him; you behold him face to face. Sun and moon, bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace.

7 Gathering Around the WORD Call to Confession The grace of our Lord overflows for us through the faith and love that are ours in Christ Jesus. Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin, saying, create in us a clean heart, O God; put a new and right spirit within us.

8 Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in unison) Creator of the universe, casualty of our sin, breath of life, we come trembling before you for we have hoarded and bartered what has never been ours in the hop of securing our future. We have yearned for wealth more than we have yearned of you. We have squandered your trust and grieved your heart with our betrayal. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake. Amen.

9 Gathering Around the WORD Declaration of Forgiveness The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Nothing you have done or nothing you will ever do is enough to separate you from the love of God and made known in Jesus Christ. I declare in the name of the risen Christ that our sin is forgiven and our lives are made new. Thanks be to God, Amen.

10 Gathering Around the WORD Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

11 Gathering Around the WORD Passing of the Peace of Christ
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

12 Proclaiming the WORD Message to the Youth/ Prayer of Illumination

13 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Psalm 14:1-7)
1Fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is no one who does good. 2The LORD looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God. 3They have all gone astray, they are all alike perverse; there is no one who does good, no, not one. 4Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon the LORD?

14 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Psalm 14:1-7)
5There they shall be in great terror, for God is with the company of the righteous. 6You would confound the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. 7O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.

15 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 15:1-10)
1Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. 2And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, "This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them."

16 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 15:1-10)
3So he told them this parable: 4"Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? 5When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices.

17 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 15:1-10)
6And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' 7Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

18 Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 15:1-10)
8"Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' 10Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

19 Proclaiming the WORD Saving One
(Psalm 14:1-7 and Luke 15:1-10)

20 Responding Hymn #442 “Just as I am, with One Plea”
Just as I am, without one plea but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou biddest me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come; I come!

21 Responding Hymn #442 “Just as I am, with One Plea”
Just as I am, though tossed about with many_a conflict, many_a doubt, fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come; I come!

22 Responding Hymn #442 “Just as I am, with One Plea”
Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come; I come!

23 Responding Hymn #442 “Just as I am, with One Plea”
Just as I am, thy love unknown has broken every barrier down; now to be thine, yea, thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come; I come!

24 Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith- Based on the Belhar Confession, Paul Janssen, Pascack Reformed Church, Park Ridge, New Jersey God has reconciled us to God's own self and to one another, and has made us one community of love. We celebrate God's gift of unity, and claim it as our calling. Separation, enmity and hatred are sins that Christ has already conquered; they have no place here among the beloved of God. God has given us many ways to enjoy our unity We commit ourselves to bless one another. We will keep the one faith and fulfill our one calling. We will be of one soul and mind.

25 Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith
We will share one baptism, eat one bread, and drink one cup. We will confess one Name, and share one hope. We will bear one another's burdens and build each other up. We will suffer together for the sake of God's righteousness. We will pray together and serve God together We will fight together against everything that threatens our unity. We will use our differences to serve Christ, one another, and the world. We celebrate God's gift of unity, and claim it as our calling.
