7. English Language Arts (ELA): WRITING
Students write regularly for a variety of purposes:

to persuade
Through the writing process, students plan, draft, revise, and publish their writing.
“Traits of Good Writing ” are modeled through teacher guided minilessons.

Spelling and vocabulary are studied and tested on alternate weeks.

8. English Language Arts (ELA): READING
A blending of new Journeys educational material and a Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop approach.
Students will be reading independently, with the whole class, and in small groups.
All students have access to reading material through the Media Center, classroom libraries, and Myon.
All students should be reading independently outside of school.
Key Concepts - Reading:
Developing close reading skills to analyze the written language
Creating extended written responses to a wide variety of genres
Participate in thoughtful discussions about both fiction and non-fiction materials
Use comprehension strategies and the structure of different genres to better understand texts
