1 Measuring the Dynamics of Injected Boron Dust Particles in the Scrape-Off Layer
Aaron Bader Dec 14, 2006 Ideas Forum 2007

2 The Boron Injector Goal is to measure the dynamics of dust motion in the SOL Boron injected with a ~5 psi ( bar) puff of helium over ms. Boron particles have radii between 40 and 120 μm. A 150 mW, 532 nm CW laser illuminates the particles. A digital camera is optically filtered to view scattered light off of the particles. The puffing system will be installed on A-port bottom. The laser will be on B-port horizontal with a fiber feedthrough. We will view either the midplane using the fast-framing camera, or in the divertor using the divertor camera.

3 Run Conditions All non-perturbing components will be independently tested in piggyback mode. To run experiments we need control of the following parameters Density Plasma shape and strike point RF power The divertor (or fast framing) camera Puffing by other diagnostics (Ninja etc.)
