As a form of induction to the course I would like you to complete a short design task which will see how CRITCAL & CREATIVE you can be.
Click onto the links or type into YouTube “Sinclair C5 advert”. Watch the short video of the product which was invented and available for purchasing in 1985 [32 years ago].
After the video answer the provided questions and generate a series of development drawings for if this product was re-introduced to the market as a RETRO DESIGN.

The Sinclair C5 is a classic example of a product, which, although it was extremely innovative, failed within a very short time of being launched.

Should the C5 have been invented?
Was it INNOVATIVE for the period of time?
Could it be improved?
Were there clear ISSUES in the design?
Can you see why it failed?
Do you think this product could come back in 2017? If so why?
What would it look like now?
In October 1985, the Financial Times reported that the receiver put the debts of Sinclair’s C5 at £7.75 million.
Nevertheless, it is interesting to speculate whether the C5 might have succeeded if it had been promoted as a golf trolley or invalid wheelchair
