1 Clothing Care The How-To...

2 Mending. Holes in the middle of the pants: need to be patched.
You can buy patches, or you can create a patch by cutting a piece of that type of fabric out of old clothing and using it for a patch.

What is a seam? Have everyone point to a seam on their clothing. Discuss how to mend a tear on a seam.

4 Stain removal. Complete the chart.
Students will complete the chart in class.

5 Clothing prep. Sort and Segregate Prep and Pretreat Wash and Dry
Fold and Put Away Clothing Prep refers to what you do before washing clothes in the laundry. Sort and Segregate: most people sort by color, but you can also sort by type of fabrics: synthetic versus natural fibers (synthetics can be dye-magnets). You can also sort by level of soil - dirty rags, jeans used while doing yard work - put together - cleaner clothes go together. Close zippers, take out chapsticks - (has anyone ever experienced THAT issue?), check for stains to be PRE-treated, remove belts and ties. Know your machine - front loaders have better results if you fill the machine up more, whereas if a top-loader is overfilled, it can damage the clothing. Put in detergent. Why is it best to fold clothing right after the cycle is over? To prevent wrinkles!! The heat that remains in the clothing helps to smooth out wrinkles when you hang them up. *After sharing this slide, have the students grab a laundry basket of clothes and prep by taking all the things out - chapsticks, tissues, belts, etc.
