English law that was passed in 1679 after the Restoration Says that prisoners had a right to get a “writ” or document ordering that the prisoners be brought before a judge to decide whether the prisoner should be tried or set free This law made it so monarchs can’t put anyone in jail for opposing them and prisoners cannot be kept in prison indefinitely habeas corpus
