Eclipses An eclipse occurs when the shadow of one celestial body falls on another. A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon A solar eclipse happens when the moon comes between the Earth and the sun, and the shadow of the moon falls on part of Earth.

Solar Eclipse A solar eclipse will occur during the new moon phase.

Lunar Eclipses A lunar eclipse will occur during the full moon phase.
Luna is the name of the moon. Therefore, a lunar eclipse means the moon is being shaded.

Lunar Eclipses The Earth is what shades the moon from getting sunlight creating a red color. A lunar eclipse will only occur at night. It will only occur when the moon is directly opposite the Sun (full moon).
