The Abrahamic religions
Read through as a class and see if we can make sense of it Abrahamic religions all accept the tradition that God revealed himself to Abraham. All are monotheistic, and say God is transcendent (separate from the universe) creator and the source of moral law. Their religious texts feature many of the same figures, histories, and places. These Abrahamic religions believe in a judging, fully external god who rules over us and the world. One seeks salvation (heaven) by seeking to please God or to comply (follow God's wishes or his law). Divine revelation is unusual (God actually communicating with us- it happened through the prophets). In these Abrahamic religions nature and the Earth are subordinate (we rule over them) to humans. In fact, humans are instructed to "rule over," and to "subdue" the Earth. Most would say we have a duty to look after it. You may want to use the hidden slide instead. I just did this as I’m an RE teacher and I enjoyed introducing these big ideas to the students.

For discussion: Have you seen examples of individuals or groups trying to create tension between people of different faiths? Are you concerned about the way any particular religious community is treated? If so which ones and why? What could we do to help build better relations between people of different faiths? Students should discuss each of these in pairs for a few minutes and then get feedback about each question
