DEPOSITION deposition is the process by which sediments are released, settled from, or dropped from an erosional system. most final deposition occurs in large bodies of water (oceans and lakes). deposition occurs when the velocity of the erosional system decreases.
2
3 Factors that affect Sedimentation.
1) particle size large particles settle (sink) first. 1st

4
2) particle shape round particles will settle faster than flat particles. (frictional drag with slow particles down) 1st

higher density particles will settle faster.

8
sorting if a layer of sediment has particles that are similar in size (density or shape) they are said to be sorted. diagram poorly sorted well sorted
9
graded bedding a layer of sediments where the sediment size decreases from the bottom to the top. diagram
10
River enters the Ocean Velocity decreases.
Big sediments are deposited first (close to shore). Fine sediments are deposited last (far from shore).
11
sand dunes wind deposits material in mounds.
gentle slope facing into the wind.. steeper slope on the leeward side. sand dunes migrate in the direction the wind is blowing. DRAW EXAMPLE
