BMM Admin 7.1 – Quick Route to Value

Prerequisites This presentation will cover the action items needed to configure Admin 7.1 to begin getting value This presentation covers Windows and MQ All the Admin 7.1 components are installed on the same system with MQ SUSE Linux and Tibco are also supported This presentation assumes the install was clean and successful

Have these items handy: Product license key
Things You Will Need Have these items handy: Product license key MQ Server Conn channel name Host name Queue manager name Port number for MQ

The Admin Windows service will not be started
Admin Service The Admin Windows service will not be started It is set to automatically start with Windows Start the Admin service

Access Admin 7.1 Through a Browser
Access the Admin 7.1 server through this URL: Replace localhost with the server name/address of the Admin 7.1 server It would be a good idea to create a desktop shortcut

The login screen needs an id/password
admin/admin are the login credentials BTW – The “admin” id has full access once logged in

Admin 7.1 requires a license key
The key comes from your BMC Account Manager A key is required for both a trial and/or a term/perpetual license

After clicking on Install Key
Important Step After clicking on Install Key You should see the number of queue managers you can manage with Admin 7.1 Do not re-enter your key again Select your browser back button

By default, you see the “User Console”
Two Consoles By default, you see the “User Console” The next step needs the “Admin Console” Select “Admin Console”

Scroll down on left panel Scroll to WMQ Connections

Setup a Queue Manager Connection
Click on the words “WMQ Connections” Do not click on the blue arrow pointing to the right You should get the panel below Do NOT click here Click Here

Setup a Queue Manager Connection
Admin 7.1 administers a queue manager through an MQ server conn channel To configure the connection, you will need: MQ Server Conn channel name Host name Queue manager name Port number for MQ You will need to define a connection between BMM Admin and every queue manager

Important Note for MQ 7.1 and MQ 7.5
With MQ 7.1 and 7.5 the default authorizations settings (CHLAUTH) have been enabled There are two options to address the new CHLAUTH setting Option One Disable CHLAUTH in the queue manager Option Two Setup a new server conn just for Admin 7.1 Set up CHLAUTH to allow a BMM Admin id to get in across the new server conn channel

Important Note for MQ 7.1 and MQ 7.5
Long term go with Option Two For now, go with Option One From a runmqsc prompt enter: ALTER QMGR CHLAUTH(DISABLED)

Define the Queue Manager
Click on the green circle with the white plus sign

Define New Connection to a Queue Manager
Fill in the 5 fields The “Connection Name” field can be anything you want

Scroll Down on the far right scroll bar Select “Test Connection”

Testing the Connection
Assuming many things Your supplied definitions are right Queue manager is up Server Conn channel is working DNS/IP configured properly Admin 7.1 will successfully connect to your queue manager

Define The admin ID to a Group
The admin user id needs to be defined to a Group Scroll-up on the left navigation pane to Groups Click on the word Groups Do NOT click here Click Here

Adding the admin ID to a New Group
Click on the green circle with the white plus sign Click Here

Enter Properties for the New Group
Enter “admin” for Group Description Enter “admin” for Group Name Click on green circle with white plus sign

Select User admin to be in New Group
Highlight the admin user Select OK

Final Creation of the new admin Group
Save the work of creating the new admin Group and adding the admin user to the new Group Click on the save folder

Add New Admin Group to a New Project
Click on the word Projects Click on the green circle with the white plus sign

Define New Project Details
Enter admin as new name for Project Description and Project Name Expand Connections and Filters

Add Connections Details
Expand the open button Select the localhost system Click OK

Scroll down on the right scroll bar Expand the Open button under Users
Add User to Project Scroll down on the right scroll bar Expand the Open button under Users Select the admin user Select all the possible permissions Select OK

Add a Group to the New Project
Scroll down on the right scroll bar Expand the Open button under Groups Select the admin Group Select all the possible permissions Select OK Click Save

Select the User Console Begin navigating to MQ objects
View MQ Objects Select the User Console Begin navigating to MQ objects

Drill Down to MQ Objects
Keep drilling through the button buttons till the MQ objects are displayed Click on queue name to begin MQ administration

Admin 7.1 can now administer an MQ object
