2 What is “Urban Anthropology”?
the anthropological study of cities A series of community studies in a nation, celebrates variation in its small- town and rural life There is much more to national life than small communities

3 How did it come about? Since the 1950s, Systematically investigated urban problems and life styles (USA, Canada and abroad) Vocabulary Systematically- arranged in or comprising an ordered system; orderly

4 What comes to mind? Is the practice of having students do local field work for an anthropology course (assuming collage is an urban setting)

Uses anthropological techniques to interpret and analyze mass media

Anthropologists have been studying their own cultures decades Anthropological research is booming in the USA and Canada “Wherever there is patterned human behavior, there is grist for the anthropological mill” Idioms: grist for /to one's mill- is something employed to one's profit or advantage, especially something seemingly unpromising.
