Practicals -Transformer
Module 1
2
TR= Np/Ns =Vp / Vs= Is/ Ip
Remember the formula TR= Np/Ns =Vp / Vs= Is/ Ip
3
Lab Activity 1- To measure the primary and secondary voltage of the transformer
Connect the primary in parallel as shown in the picture
4
Circuit Diagram Sketch the circuit for the parallel connection. It would be as follows:
5
Now measure the primary voltage using the multimeter on. AC 200V range
Now measure the primary voltage using the multimeter on . AC 200V range. Primary Voltage=______V AC
6
Next measure the secondary voltage using the multimeter on AC (200V range). Secondary Voltage Vs1=______V AC Secondary Voltage Vs2=______V AC Are both equal? Why?
7
Lab Activity 3- To calculate the transformer power loss
Connect the primary in parallel and secondary in series as shown in the picture. Also connect the resistor load module with the 2 resistors in series ( = 440 Ω). Measure the primary and secondary voltage Measure the primary current and secondary current
8
Measuring Primary Current
9
Measuring Secondary Current
10
Measure the following:
Transformer primary voltage = ____VAC Transformer primary current = ____mA= ____ A Transformer primary power = VpxIp = ____W Transformer secondary voltage= __VAC Transformer secondary current = ___mA=___ A Transformer secondary power = VsxIs ____W
11
Calculate the following:
Transformer Efficiency= ____ % Transformer input-output voltage ratio = Vp/Vs = ____ Transformer input-output current ratio = Is/Ip = ____ What do you observe about the relation between voltage, current and Turns ratio?
