Redworm Behavior Part 2
2
Daily Objective Worm behavior is influenced by conditions in the environment.
3
Vocabulary Backward – toward the back
Behavior – the way that an animal acts Burrow – a hole dug in the ground by an animal Hide – to keep out of sight Forward – toward the front React – to respond Sideways – with one side forward Soil – mixture of humus and earth material in which plants often grow

Introduction What do remember about an earthworm’s structure?
Today we are going to focus on how they behave. Everyone will dig for a worm, rinse it off, and then place it one the table for observation.
5
Observation and Discussion
Now that you’ve had time to observe. How do the worms move? Do they always move forward? Can you get them to move backward? Sideways? Does the worm change shape when it moves? Describe the shape changes. What do you think the worm will do if something is in its path?
6
Observation and Discussion Block the Path
Place one of the objects in the worm’s path. How does the redworm react to the object in it’s path? What do you think a snail would do if it came to the same object? How does the redworm get by the object?
