What is a Manga? Manga is a Japanese graphic novel. Unlike American comics or books, manga is read from right to left instead of left to right. The people who create the manga is called a mangaka. There is also anime, which is manga, but you can watch it instead of read.

What Would I Need To Become A Mangaka?
Create original artwork using any of a wide variety of media and techniques Thinking Creatively. Developing, designing, creating new ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions Handling and Moving Objects. Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work . Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work If I want an editor in Japan, I would need to learn the Japanese language.

What Would My Salary Be? It would really depend on how popular the manga is. According to the internet, the average yearly salary for Manga Artist is $51,000. If you are just beginning to work a new job as a Manga Artist, you could expect a starting pay rate of $42,000 annually. As is true for most jobs and careers, you can expect your hourly pay rate or salary to increase as you gain experience and the longer you are employed with the same employer. You could potentially make an average income of around $60,000 after several years on the job with increased wages.

Skills and Values What is a value of mine? Most manga artist are Japanese, making it harder (but not impossible) for a native American citizen to publish a manga. It could make my work unique because I am American. I would need to have artistic skills. I would need to be able to draw manga, learn how to do shading, and I would also need to be a good writer if I want to create a good story and good drawings that has the reader interested.

Education A Bachelor's Degree in art would be good for this career option. The amount of training I need is dependent on how much I know. I could have my first book published by the time I am 16, or it could take a really long time. An art university in Japan I would like to attend is Tokyo University of the Arts.

Why do I want to be a mangaka?
I love to draw and I love anime and manga. I want to create a story that people will read and love. It would be a good way to make money doing something I love.
