Don’t stop; just pause A comma is a pause. It’s NOT a final stop like a period. It’s used to connect old ideas with new ones, and tell people when to pause.

Comma Rules and Examples
Combine 2 strong clauses joined with a coordinating conjunction. Set off introductory phrases or clauses. Set off one or more words that interrupt the flow of thought in a sentence. School is still in session for another nine weeks, so you better try to learn all you can! To raise enough money in time, Mary sold all of her personal belongings. Justin, who lives down the street from me, is going to be at the party also.

Separate two or more adjectives that modify the same noun (comma replaces the word “and”) After a dependent clause starts a sentence. Set off introductory words. She is a beautiful, intelligent girl. If you want to get good grades, you need to do your homework. In conclusion, the 2016 Olympics should be held in Chicago.
