A CLIENT IS AN INSTANCE OF SAP. MOST COMPANIES HAVE MANY SAP CLIENTS. SO, WHAT EXACTLY IS AN SAP CLIENT? FOR EXAMPLE THEY MIGHT HAVE A TEST CLIENT, USED BY THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TEAM BUILDING THE SYSTEM, OR A TRAINING CLIENT THAT IS USED ONLY FOR TRAINING. HERE’S A QUICK REFERENCE THAT EXPLAINS THE DIFFERENT ICONS. KEEP IT ON HAND SO YOU CAN REFER TO IT THROUGHOUT. NOW, LET’S EXPLORETHE DIFFERENT SECTIONS ON THE HOME PAGE. NOW I’M IN SAP. WHAT ARE ALL THESE ICONS ON THE HOME PAGE? Download Quick Reference. Click each section of the homepage to learn more. Popup 1: The menu bar is the topmost level of the SAP screen. The menu bar is accessible from any screen in SAP. Popup 2: The standard toolbar contains icons that are standard across all SAP screens. Popup 3: The title bar displays the name of the screen you are working on. Popup 4: The application toolbar contains icons that duplicate the functions available in the menu bar, but provides quicker access. The icons in this toolbar may change, depending on the screen you are on. Popup 5: The main area is used for navigating and completing tasks in SAP. THE SECOND OPTION IS THE USER MENU. THIS SHOWS YOU ONLY THE TRANSACTIONS THAT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO. YOU CAN TOGGLE BETWEEN THE TWO VIEWS USING THE ICONS AT THE TO LEFT CORNER OF THE HOME PAGE. YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS FOR DISPLAYING INFORMATION ON YOUR HOME PAGE. THE DEFAULT VIEW IS THE SAP MENU. IN THIS VIEW, YOU CAN SEE ALL THE FOLDERS WITHIN SAP, ALTHOUGH YOU MAY NOT HAVE ACCESS TO SOME OF THE TRANSACTIONS. Narration: Same as on-screen text.

FROM THE HOME PAGE, YOU CAN NAVIGATE TO THE TRANSACTION YOU NEED… WHOA! HOLD ON! WHAT’S A TRANSACTION? IN SAP, TASKS ARE CALLED TRANSACTIONS. THEY ARE A SERIES OF SCREENS IN WHICH YOU CAN WORK WITH DATA. EXAMPLES OF TRANSACTIONS ARE: RECORDING YOUR TIME, CREATING A PURCHASE REQUISITION, OR IN OUR CASE, A NOTIFICATION. Narration: Same as on-screen text. EACH TRANSACTION HAS ITS OWN UNIQUE IDENTIFIER – CALLED A TRANSACTION CODE. TRANSACTION CODES CAN BE A COMBINATION OF NUMBERS AND/OR LETTERS. TO GO TO A TRANSACTION, YOU CAN USE THE MENU, OR YOU CAN USE THE TRANSACTION CODE.

YES. TRANSACTION CODES PROVIDE A SHORTCUT FOR ACCESSING TRANSACTIONS. THE TRANSACTION CODE FOR CREATING A NOTIFICATION IS IW21. WHY DON’T I TALK YOU THROUGH IT, AND LET YOU TRY? I DON’T KNOW…IT MAY BE HARD TO REMEMBER THE MENU PATH FOR EVERY TRANSACTION. DID YOU SAY I CAN ALSO USE THE TRANSACTION CODE? Try it!
