2 Do you remember the three things we learned about a sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that tell a whole idea. A sentence starts with a capital letter. A sentence ends with punctuation (like a period or question mark).

3 Let’s look at some sentences and find the subject.
Now we are going to learn about the subject of sentences. The subject of a sentence tells us who or what the sentence is about. Sometimes the subject of the sentence is one word, and sometimes it’s more than one word. Let’s look at some sentences and find the subject.

4 Sam is the subject of the sentence.
Sam is in the sack. Who is in the sack? Sam is the subject of the sentence.

5 Pig is the subject of the sentence.
Pig takes a sip. Who takes a sip? Pig is the subject of the sentence.

6 Max and Pam is the subject of the sentence.
Max and Pam play music. Who plays music? Max and Pam is the subject of the sentence.

The dog is in the sack. What is in the sack? The dog is the subject of the sentence.

8 Let’s make some sentences
Let’s make some sentences. The animals will be the subject of the sentence. The ______ can see you. pig cat dog horse

9 Practice Test Directions: Choose the naming part of each sentence.
The cat got away. Sam hid in a sack. My dog is fun. He likes to play with a ball. Jack can catch the ball. He is really good at catching. The girl will help him learn how to get the ball. My mom can see us play. She gives us both snacks. I love to play too! Check your answers on the next slide.
