MATHS AT GAWSWORTH
2
The New Primary Curriculum was implemented in September 2014.
Children were expected to get further and more quickly in terms of Mathematical Attainment than ever before. Concepts previously in the Y6 curriculum are now in the Y5 or even Y4 curriculum.
3
With the demands being higher we decided it would be ineffective to teach children concepts they were just NOT ready for in KS2. This is why we SET for Maths
4
In 2015 Gawsworth achieved 100% of children achieving National Expectations in Maths, including children who had not worked with the majority of their cohort all year.
5
FILL THE GAPS We are still only 2 years into the New Curriculum and constantly need to fill the gaps. Which we continue to do.
6
The 3 Cs Confidence Calculation Concept
7
We do this to avoid: “COGNITIVE OVERLOAD”
8
What we aim to teach is: Efficiency Speed Accuracy
9
We only teach new concepts when we feel the children are ready.
10
Formal standard methods are expected by the end of Key Stage 2 and are taught but a lot of other work encouraging quick mental and informal methods will come first.
11
How would you do….? x – 1994 ÷ 5
