What is a verb mood? A verb mood is the emotion that a verb is expressing. There are 5 types.

The Five Types Indicative: Expresses a fact or opinion.
Imperative: Is a direct command or request. Interrogative: This type of verb mood indicates a state of questioning. Conditional: Can indicate a conditional state that will cause something else to happen. Subjunctive: 1. Present- When you need to express a suggestion, a necessity, or an direct or indirect command. 2. Past- When you need to express an untrue condition, a wish, or even a desire.

Indicative Verb Mood The indicative verb mood expresses a fact or opinion.

Examples of Indicative Verb Mood
Charlie takes a test in social studies every Friday. She stopped during the 2nd half of the game. That was a good play. We had chicken for dinner. She is riding her bike.

Imperative Verb Mood An Imperative verb mood is when it expresses a command or request.

Imperative Verb Mood Examples
Drive the Boat! Please make me breakfast. Go bring me Starbucks, slave. Stop clicking your pens! Slow down the car!

Interrogative Verb Moods
This is when you are indicating a state of questioning.

Interrogative Verb Mood Examples
Does she like eating before or after practice? Did she play tonight? Does she normally do her homework? Why does his grandfather have Twitter? How often do you eat out each week?

Conditional Verb Moods
Conditional: Can indicate a conditional state that will cause something else to happen.

Conditional Verb Mood Examples
If my brother was a little taller, then he could have gone on the roller coaster. If I had gone in early before the day of the test, then I probably would have made a better grade. If I had done my homework , then I wouldn’t have made a zero on it. If I hadn’t had ice cream for breakfast, then I would have performed better on my test.

Subjunctive Verb Moods
There are two types of Subjunctive verb moods. Subjunctive: 1. Present- When you need to express a suggestion, a necessity, or an direct or indirect command. 2. Past- When you need to express an untrue condition, a wish, or even a desire.

Subjunctive Verb Mood Examples- Present
If I were you, I would’ve gone to your mom for help. If I had one wish it would be to make all my grades A’s. One thing that I always need to have is my phone.

I wish it could still be in use. She suggests that Ansley should workout every Saturday. I would like for this assignment to not be so long.
