2 About Teen Suicide Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for 15- to 24-year-olds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). There are at least 25 attempts of suicide for every completed teen suicide.

3 60% of all suicides in the United States are committed with a gun.
How? 60% of all suicides in the United States are committed with a gun. Overdose. Prescription, and non-prescription medicine is also a very common method for completing suicide.

4 Which Teens Are at Risk for Suicide?
Stress and worry. There's pressure to fit in socially, to perform well academically, and to act responsibly. Young people with mental health problems — such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder. Teens going through major life changes (parents' divorce, moving, a parent leaving, financial changes) Those who are victims of bullying.

Give hints that they might not be around anymore Talk about feeling hopeless or feeling guilty Experience changes in eating or sleeping habits Engage in risk-taking behaviors Lose interest in school or sports

Proposal People care about suicide after an attempt of after it has already occurred. Create campaigns and institutions that promote the prevention of teen suicide since the beginning. Make people care about this issue! Making parents contious about how their desitions can affect their kids. Giving conferences in school about bullying and self-esteem Comercials and avertisements about suicide Getting support from the government to supports this institutions

10 What Can Parents Do? Many teens who commit or attempt suicide have given some type of warning to loved ones ahead of time. So it's important for parents to know the warning signs so teens who might be suicidal can get the help they need. Some adults feel that kids who say they are going to hurt or kill themselves are "just doing it for attention." It's important to realize that if teens are ignored when seeking attention, it may increase the chance of them harming themselves (or worse).

11 How To Help Since people who are contemplating suicide feel so alone and helpless, the most important thing to do if you think a friend or loved one is suicidal is to communicate with him or her openly and frequently. Make it clear that you care; stress your willingness to listen Don't hesitate to bring up the subject of suicide, and to ask direct questions.
