Think about the place where we live. Can you answer these questions:
Is there a mountain or ocean nearby?
What part of the world do you live in?
What is the weather like?
Does it snow, rain, get hot or cold…
Do you ever have tornado strikes? Hurricanes? Tsunami?
Does your town have many people living there?
Does your town have many different ethnicities or not?

3. Geography-
Is the study of the world, its people, and the landscapes they create.
Many questions that geographers ask deal with how the world works.
To do this geographers have to act and think like scientists.

4. The Geographer’s tools
A map is a flat drawing that shows all or part of the Earth’s surface.
A globe is a spherical, or ball-shaped, model of the entire planet.

The theory that the continents have been moving and shifting for millions of years, and it was once a single supercontinent.

6. theory of plate tectonics
The theory suggests the Earth’s surface is divided into a dozen or so slow-moving plates, or piece of Earth’s crust.
Our planet has been shaped by plate-tectonic processes.
They move due to the pressure under the earth.
The Earth’s continents are still moving.
The Earth’s tectonic plates has been building landforms; shapes on the planet’s surface. Ex. Hills, mountains, valleys.

8. The lines that run from left to right, or west to east, are called lines of latitude. The equator is in the exact middle of the latitude lines. 
These lines are always the same distance apart, and never cross.  Lines of latitude are also called parallels, as they are "parallel" to the equator.

9. Longitude- distance measured, in degrees, from east or west from an imaginary line (called the prime meridian) that goes from the North Pole to the South Pole and that passes through Greenwich, England.

12. The equator is the imaginary line that runs all the way around the world, dividing it into two equal halves, the Northern Hemisphere, north of the equator, and the Southern Hemisphere, south of the equator.
Any place to the left, or west, of the Prime Meridian is in the Western Hemisphere, and any place to the right, or east, of the Prime Meridian is in the Eastern Hemisphere.

19. Europe
∞ 2nd smallest continent. ∞ Has the world's largest country; Russia, and the world's smallest country; Vatican. ∞ Includes 50 countries.

20. Australia
∞ Smallest continent in the world and is unified as one country. ∞ Home to 18.3 million people, which is equivalent to the population of New York State. ∞ Contains 6 states and 2 territories. ∞ The native people were called Aborigines. ∞ The country speaks English.
