2. Types of Questions
Types of questions may include “hot text”, multiple select and open response.
So…. What does that mean???

3. Hot text
“Hot text” requires you to select words or phrases from the text to answer questions using explicit information in the text as support.
Examples:
Select the sentence form the paragraph that shows why the main character had to leave one job to go work for another.
Select a sentence from the text that shows that the family’s situation still has improved.

4. Where does the character get the idea about how to….?
Multiple Select
Multiple select questions require you to select multiple direct quotations or descriptions of textual evidence to support an explicit or implicit statement from the text.
Examples:
Where does the character get the idea about how to….?
(Choose from A, B, C, or D)
Which sentence from the text shows that the main character’s situation has not improved?

5. Open response
An open response requires you to state the theme or central message form a passage (this would be your claim) and provide details from the text that convey the theme or message (these would be direct quotes pulled from the text to support your claim). For each quote you use, you need to explain how it supports your claim.
Examples:
What is the theme of this passage? Provide evidence from the text to support your answer.
Do you feel the principal is justified in accusing the boy of wrong doing? Provide examples from the text to support your claim.
