Let’s look at the back of Na Liu’s book – she wrote a biography. She provides her readers some historical perspective and historical information. “After seeing China change so much and so fast in my lifetime, I believe it’s possible someday the only records we have of how cultures and countries were once very different from one another will be in books like this one. We can preserve out unique experiences of life through pictures and stories.” Information, reflections, memories found in books are poignant ways to preserve these things.

Questions that Help Us Recall Special Events
We all remember certain events for reasons that are personally important to us. Look at the questions below to make a list. Then, write about one of them in your Writers Notebook. What events changed your thinking or caused a pivotal change in your life? What events or experiences form your life do you find yourself thinking about often? What special events or experiences stand out most as being meaningful or important? Can you think of a particular event that surprised you? Why? Can you think of an event from your life that made you feel like you were growing up and no longer a child? What was it about the event that made you feel this way? Was there something in your life that happened that made you feel empathetic toward another person or group of people? What happened, and why did it make you feel empathetic?
