Introducing Myself 13th year teaching
I won Portola’s “Educator of the Year” & “Educational Leader of the Year” a few years ago Master’s in Education from California Lutheran University Son (Logan – 8 years old – Just started 3rd grade) Daughter (Taylor – 4 years old – Just started TK)

Progress Reports Portola hands out progress reports every 5 weeks (5, 10, 15, 20 weeks) 5 and 15 hand-carried by your child 10 and 20 mailed home I progress reports around the same time as the 5, 10, 15, & 20 week progress reports If you do not have an and your child is struggling, I will print one out and it is due back the next day signed by you I sent you an last week. Did you get it? If not, please see me!

Agenda Book The agenda book is where the student writes down the classwork and the homework everyday. It would be great if you could check their agenda daily and see if they completed all the homework. After you have checked the agenda book, please sign your name at the bottom of each day that you checked it. There will be random agenda checks during homeroom. We will check to make sure your son/daughter is writing their homework everyday and that you are signing the agenda book.

Classroom Website www.portolams.org This is our class website.
It lists the agenda everyday. It informs you of homework, classwork, and upcoming tests. I upload the Math Notes (picture) I upload a tutorial of me teaching the Math Notes (video with a floating marker)

Grading Website www.jupitered.com
You can access your child’s grades any time from anywhere that has Internet. Passwords were sent home with your child the first week of school. If you do not know your password, please me and I will send it to you. I ed you today. Did you get it? If not, please see me! You can set up how often you want Jupiter Ed to you about your child’s grade. If we are asked to switch to Schoology we will inform you.

Math Standards Would you like to know what your son/daughter will be learning in Math this year??? I teach to the Math Common Core State Standards. Please go to this website for the CA Content Standards:

End-Of-Year Placement TEST
In May there will be a placement test given by the district. If they PASS they will go into Math Accelerated 7/8 next year. If they DO NOT PASS they will take 7th grade Common Core Math (Not Honors Math). It will cover 6th grade Math standards and some 7th grade Math standards. Please have your son/daughter work on 7th grade Math in Khan Academy to prepare them for this test.

Khan Academy Khan Academy will be assigned as a weekly homework assignment starting next week. If you do not have a computer or your internet is not working, your son/daughter can go to the Computer Lab in room 145 on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:15-4:15.

Math Textbook Online If your son/daughter leaves their textbook in their locker, don’t worry! Their Math textbook is online! Your son/daughter was given an LAUSD mymail and password. Their mymail allows them to access their google , khan academy, and the Math textbook online. They were given mymail sign-on directions the second week of school. These directions should be taped into the front inside cover of their Math notebook.

HoPE Fund The HoPE Fund is Portola’s Annual Giving Fund
It stands for Help Portola Excel The amount requested is $400 per child, but any amount is greatly appreciated. YES, WE TAKE CREDIT CARDS!!! The Money is used for: Classes including: computers, drama, music, audio visual, art, foreign language, English, Math, Science, & History Field trip busses for all grades and classes Your donation is 100% tax deductible Public schools are free… but… GREAT public schools are NOT FREE
