You’ll learn to: Evaluate the concepts of balance, variety and moderation, using the Food guide Pyramid and national dietary guidelines. Examine the effects of healthful eating behaviors on body systems. Select healthful meals and snacks as part as a balanced diet.

4 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
Dietary Guidelines for Americans is a set of recommendations for healthful eating and active living.

5 ABC’s of Good Health A: Aim For Fitness Aim for a healthy weight.
Be physically active each day.

6 B: Build a Healthy Base Make food choices healthful
Choose a variety of grain products, especially whole grains. Choose a variety of fruit and veggies daily. Keep food safe to eat.

7 C: Choose Sensibly Choose a diet that is low in saturated fat.
Causes heart disease. Moderate your sugar intake. Sodas. Extra calories. Don’t drink your calories. Prepare and eat foods that have less salt. To much salt increases risk of high blood pressure and decreases calcium from bones.

8 Why Should I Eat Breakfast?
Fresh supply of energy. Improves mental and physical performance. Reduces fatigue. Not eating may cause you to over eat later in the day. May cause you to gain weight.

9 Snacks Try to eat healthy foods and not garbage.
Stay away from caffeine drinks.

10 Eating Out, Eat Right When you eat out you don’t need to eat like a pig. Portions are always larger in restaurants. There is much more fat in those meals.
