careful study that is done to find and report new knowledge about something

RESEARCH TERMS! SOURCE: CREDIBLE SOURCE:
text from which a researcher finds his or her information CREDIBLE SOURCE: sources that are reliable and full of CRAP (more on that later).

RESEARCH TERMS! PLAGIARISM:
copying someone else’s hard work and behaving as though it’s your own. SUDDEN RESEARCH PAPER GRADE DEATH.

RESEARCH TERMS! CITATION:
notation after a quote or paraphrase that gives credit to the source from which you received information. includes author last name, year of publication and page number. Example: “Ms. Comiskey is best friends with Beyonce” (Herrera, 2015, pg. 65).

RESEARCH TERMS! DIRECT QUOTATION:
the exact repetition of a line or lines from a source. Set up like this: The author says, “Ms. Comiskey is the greatest of all time” (Ratliff, 2015, pg. 15).

RESEARCH TERMS! PARAPHRASE:
Putting an author’s words into your own words. We still use a citation, though. Set up like this: The author says that Ms. Comiskey is super awesome (Ratliff, 2015, pg. 15).

RESEARCH TERMS! SUMMARY:
A paragraph or two describing the main points of a source. Should give reader a good understanding of the text.

RESEARCH TERMS! BIBLIOGRAPHY: A list of sources used in an essay.
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY: Bibliography that includes explanations of each source
